Thank you for the opportunity for FAWC to comment on the above proposals.

As you will know, Council's views on the need for a poultry registration scheme have been made well known to Ministers and officials. We welcome the partial implementation of these recommendations. However, the scheme proposed by the Directive relates only to laying hens. FAWC would like to see registration of poultry keepers extended to all production systems and species.

These proposals also confirm Council's previous recommendations for more transparent labelling of food products from different systems. The point that is not addressed is FAWC's other concern about the welfare provenance of the food we eat in relation to Third Country imports, especially of processed products.
