29. If cows are turned out during part, or all, of the winter period they should be allowed to acclimatise to the conditions (paragraph 117).

30. A concrete standing area or well-drained, suitable surface that will not injure feet should be provided around feed and water troughs. Alternatively, these facilities should be moved frequently to prevent animals standing in muddy, foul areas (paragraph 118).

31. Cattle should be provided with shelter, which may be natural, from wind and driving rain (paragraph 119).
