170. Sufficient stalls of adequate size should be provided for AI and veterinary procedures, dependent upon cow and herd size and calving pattern. These should be adjacent to buildings in daily use, in order to minimise stress (paragraph 308).
171. The provision of handling and loading facilities on-farm, to allow cattle to be loaded onto a vehicle with a minimum of stress, is essential (paragraph 309).
172. The calving facilities should be of a design and size that will ensure sufficient space for the animal, prevent slipping and facilitate easy cleaning (paragraph 323).
173. Calving and hospital pens should be available, with an entrance of sufficient width to allow easy herding of each cow into the pen and to provide access by tractor. Pens should be sited so as to be easily accessible and to enable regular observation. Provision should be made to allow lifting gear to be used (paragraph 324).
