17. The welfare of horses, other than that those kept for agricultural purposes, falls outside the remit of FAWC and we did not consider the use of per rectum ultrasonography in these animals. Some of those consulted believed that welfare problems might result if untrained, non-veterinarians carried out the procedure. We suggest that the Government keeps the situation under review.
